Chicago, IL (December 14, 2011) – Friday night’s M-1 Challenge XXX: Zavurov vs. Enomoto II in Costa Mesa, California, captured the live audience with jaw-dropping action; those tuning in to the live telecast on SHOWTIME enjoyed endless replays as fighters showing off their skills in the ring.
The middleweight bout on the main card featured a match between Tyson “The Antihero” Jeffries (7-6) and Eddie “Crazy Face” Arizmendi (15-5).
Fighting out of the Huntington Beach Ultimate Training Center, Jeffries stepped in to the ring cheered by the large crowd that included Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Michael “The Count” Bisping, who stayed at Tyson’s corner giving him last moment instructions. Jeffires and Arizmendi, hungry for victory, both coming of recent defeats, rushed to a violent clash in the middle of the ring.
Almost immediately, Jeffries locked Arizmendi up in a body lock and scored a takedown. Arizmendi, working from his back on the ground, landed several strong punches, keeping Jeffries locked in his guard and only allowing Jeffries to land a couple of straight crosses from the top. As the fighters were stood up at about two minutes into the bout, Eddie Arizmendi went in with a flash of kicks and punches landing a front kick to the chest, then a leg kick and an uppercut, prompting Jeffries to back up and going for another takedown that Arizmendi successfully defended. In turn, Arizmendy went for a takedown but Jeffries stuffed it and was able to land a right cross as being pushed into the ropes in the clinch at the end of round one.
With the start of second round both fighters traded strikes, with Arizmendi connecting on a cross, right before Jeffries landed another takedown and moved into side control. Jeffries quickly locked into a Brabo choke and drew the tap from Arizmendi.
The official time – 2:08 into the second round, giving Jeffries the victory and submission of the night.
“It was a tough one” said Jeffries after the fight. “Arizmendi is a big and strong guy, he was able to connect couple of times and I didn’t want to give him any more chances. Really happy I won and big thanks to my team and the fans. Also big thanks to Rampage and Bisping for coming out and helping my corner.”
