In a see-saw battle between middleweight contenders Shane Primm and Mike Geurin a t the M-1 Global Selections Americas semi finals on Saturday August 7th, fans witnessed these warriors produce a strikers duel featuring jaw-breaking rights, flying knees and slick submission attempts.
“Amongst all the stellar bouts Saturday night, Primm and Geurin certainly stood out above all others,” says M1-Global’s Director of Operations, Evgeni Kogan. “This was a perfect formula of relentlessness, aggression and imposed dominance.”
With spectacular displays of precision striking, both fighters exchanged shots and found opportunities to go to the canvass where submissions were attempted and countered like a chess match; at several points during the bout, both fighters were caught and nearly submitted in an array of holds.
Even being able to withstand Guerin’s neck-snapping artillery of rights, lefts and upper cuts, Primm was clearly rocked several times throughout the full three round contest and looked like a staggering rubber chicken. Knowing he was down two rounds, Primm charged out to start the third and gave everything he had, proving he can throw a punch as well as he can take one.
“My hat goes off to Shane,” says Geurin. “This was the toughest fight of my career. He just wouldn’t go down… Thank’s to M-1 for this opportunity. I’ll be ready for September 18th.”
Going the distance, the judges gave the bout to Mike Geurin via unanimous decision; leaving M-1 Global matchmaker, Paul Domenich, with an easy decision to bring Primm back for an undercard bout on the Americas Finals card September 18th. As for Geurin, he’ll face Tyson ‘The Anti-Hero’ Jeffries in a well-earned middleweight final bout and a shot at becoming the M-1 Selection Americas Champion.
