As a relative newcomer to the professional ranks of mixed martial arts, Daniel Vizcaya put on a stellar display of dominant control in an impressive ground-and-pound victory over Ariel Sepulveda on last Saturday night’s M-1 Selection 2010 – Americas second round tournament.
Now sporting a record of 2-0, Vizcaya’s first victory was in February of this year at Gameness Fighting Championship 6, where he defeated Shawn Hammonds via verbal submission late in the second round thanks to a barrage of heavy strikes. “I’ve had two dominant fights as a professional and my goal is to continue to impose my counters, takedowns and striking on my opponents,” says Vizcaya. “I’m happy to have come away from the fight against Ariel without any injuries so I can go right back to training in preparation for my next fight with M-1. This is an amazing opportunity for me and I’m looking to go all the way to the finals.”
M-1 Global’s Director of Operations, Evgeni Kogan, sees Vizcaya as a strong contender in the light heavyweight tournament.”Matchmaker, Paul Domenech, is doing a great job in scouring the US for the next generation of superstars, which is what the Selection tournament is all about. Vizcaya has certainly caught our attention with his performance and I’ll be watching him in the Americas third round in August.”
The M-1 Selection’s gruelling tournament structure will put Vizcaya’s athleticism to the test as he will need to ensure a full recovery by August 7th; should he put in another solid performance and come away victorious yet again, he’ll need to get right back at it in preparation for the finals six weeks later on September 18.
The M-1 Selection2010 – Americas tournament third round takes place live on August 7 at Bally’s Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Tickets are available through www.TicketMaster.com. Doors open at 7:00 pm, first fight at 7:30 PM/ET.
Free broadcast coverage of the entire 2010 M-1 Selection tournament will be available live to viewers worldwide on www.M-1global.com and selected affiliate partner sites.
