Oregon native and Team Quest fighter Tyson Jeffries is aiming to take out Philadelphia Fight Factory’s Mike Johnson in their middleweight bout at the M-1 Selection 2010 – Americas second round on June 26 in Atlantic City, New Jersey; moving him further down the tournament bracket structure and improving upon his 5-5 record.
As a Sport Fight veteran, Jeffries has the qualities and skills it takes to be successful as a mixed martial arts fighter and being exposed to the Team Quest mentality and professionalism of notable teammate and UFC Middleweight contender, Chael Sonnen, is certainly aiding his development. “ I train with the some of the best fighters in the world … I owe lots of appreciation to my coaches and friends,” says Jeffries.
“Team Quest is known for producing impeccable fighters with sound wrestling foundations,” says M-1 Global’s Director of Operations, Evgeni Kogan. “Matt Lindland is a highly decorated Olympian and a role model to his camp. I’m expecting this to be a hard-fought, exciting tilt between two well matched opponents.”
Jeffries will likely look to use his submission skills to subdue Johnson and his striking abilities but with Johnson’s commitment to improving his take-down defence, this could easily turn into a stand-up tilt based on effective counter striking strategies.
As newcomers to the M-1 ring, both Jeffries and Johnson are coming to the canvass with nothing to lose in the middleweight tournament’s single-elimination format with the winner preparing for the America’s third round event in early August and the loser headed back home to lick their wounds and contemplate what went wrong.
The M-1 Selection – Americas tournament second round takes place live on June 26 at Bally’s Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Tickets are available through www.TicketMaster.com. Doors open at 6.30 pm, first fight at 7:00 PM/ET.
Free broadcast coverage of the entire 2010 M-1 Selection tournament will be available to viewers worldwide on www.M-1global.com and selected affiliate partner sites.
