The sixth edition of the M-1 Selection — streamed live on Saturday at both M-1Global.com and Mixfight.ru — was held yesterday in Dagestan, Russia, the home city of the Gorec fight team. Facing a tough and battle tested Russia Legion team — a team that is currently a semifinalist in the 2009 M-1 Challenge after going 3-0 — Gorec was able to pull off a dramatic upset over the heavily favored Legion squad.

In addition to Gorec’s upset victory, Red Devil once again asserted its dominance as one of the premier fight teams in all of Russia by defeating Sochi Star by a 4-1 score. Red Devil was actually leading 4-0 heading into the fifth and final fight — a heavyweight tilt between one-time Affliction veteran Kirill Sidelnikov and Gorec fighter Ibragim Ibragimov. With the fight opening up as an exciting and entertaining brawl, Sidelnikov was upset after being declared the loser via TKO following a doctor’s stoppage.
