Warrior Promotions are proud to announce that “Team England” have secured a Sponsorship deal with the brand new MMA-themed online educational poker site ChokeOutPoker.net. This innovative new Company which launches on August 28th will sponsor the team, as they prepare to face “Team Spain” during the final weekend of the 2009 M-1 Challenge regular season in Hilversum, (nr Amsterdam) Holland.
Team England have been on a roller coaster adventure during their first season of this exciting Global tournament. As from initially being marked as rank outsiders when the draw was made at the start of the year; “Team England” soon had the naysayers eating their words, as they showed their potential early-on by defeating “Team Japan” 4-1 in their opening group game in Tokyo, nearly four months ago.
Although Team England’s hopes took a knock in June when they were defeated 4-1 by “Team France” in Kansas City. Group ‘A’ remains wide open and with only the group winners advancing to the Semi Final next month, the “Weekend of Fighting” at Studio 22 in Hilversum, will decide who advances and who goes back to the drawing board, as 30 exciting MMA bouts are planned over 2 days, which will see 6 team challenges over 3 separate groups.
Already the English team have predicted a 5-0 win over their Spanish counterparts, as they look to qualify for the Semi Final in Russia. And to secure victory in the best-of-five bout series, “Team England” have named a strong line-up which consists of (from Lightweight to Heavyweight) “Skinny” Scott Hewitt (3-0-0), Simon “The Exeter Executioner” Phillips (9-3-0), Matt “12 Gauge” Thorpe (12-8-0), Tom Blackledge (8-6-0-1nc), Dave “The Iron Giant” Keeley (3-0-0).
As well as impressing inside the “squared circle” the English team have also worked hard to promote the M-1 Challenge in their home country and also in the media. This has seen the team being featured in numerous video blogs, magazine and website articles and they have also held a two day seminar in Yorkshire (alongside the 6 time UFC vet and current M-1 Global Master of Ceremonies Ian “The Machine” Freeman. Without a doubt the brash English newcomers are the most recognizable team in this year’s Challenge and their entertaining antics, likeable personalities and quality in-ring performances have endeared them to a worldwide audience.
