Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio spoke with MMAWeekly.com right after his second round TKO victory over Randy Hedderick at the “Ultimate Chaos” PPV in Mississippi.
Atencio discussed a number of topics during the interview, including past reports that former PRIDE lightweight champion Takanori Gomi was going to be added to Affliction and M-1′s “Trilogy” event on Aug. 1 in Anaheim, Calif. at the Honda Center.
MMA Weekly and multiple other sites reported earlier this month that Gomi was expected to be added to “Trilogy” in a match vs. former IFL veteran Brett Cooper.
Cooper, who also fought and won at “Ultimate Choas,” was added to the “Trilogy” undercard in a bout vs. Akbarh Arreola. However, Atencio added soon after the Gomi reports that a deal with the lightweight legend had not been finalized.
But according to Atencio, talks remain ongoing.
“…We’re still working on it,” Atencio is quoted. “We’re finalizing everything, but it looks like it’s gonna go through. I’m not 100-percent yet, but we’re still working on it for sure.”
Atencio also added that Affliction was already working on a potential opponent for Gomi but he did not wish to issue further comment since nothing has been signed.
