During an exclusive interview with Gegard Mousasi conducted on Tuesday, the former DREAM middleweight champion revealed to M-1Global.com that he had accepted an offer to fight former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort at Affliction III on Aug. 1.
However, while Mousasi has formally committed to the bout, a new report on the Brazilian website Tatame.com reveals that Belfort has not yet accepted the bout and may elect not to fight Mousasi at all.
“… I fight at 185 lbs.,” Belfort is quoted as telling Tatame in an English-translation version of the interview. “If they want to do this fight at 185 lbs., it’s done, otherwise I see no option to go up, even because he isn’t a challenge, a man with much name. To go up, I don’t see him as a challenge. I want to fight with him in the weight he was champion (at Dream), then I think its worth [it].”
M-1Global.com was unable to get an immediate response from Mousasi, who was in transit from Japan to Holland.
