Forty two year old of expects to make his return to the cage on June 27.

His opponent has yet to be announced and the fight will take place as part of the undercard to a Bob Sapp vs. main event at the Gulf Coast Coliseum in , Mississippi. The name of the promotion has also yet to be announced but it’s expected to be the first event from a new organization.

There are quite a few people that don’t realize that the Affliction made his mixed martial arts debut back in January of 2005 when he scored a decision victory over at Total Combat 7. Atencio has yet to taste defeat in the cage.

It’s refreshing to see someone like Atencio put it all on the line for nothing more than his love for the sport and hunger for competition. At forty two years of age and more money in the than most of us could ever dream of, Atencio has officially earned my respect.

The PPV numbers would likely be jaw dropping if we could some day arrange a catch-weight bout between Atencio and Dana White
